Corpus Christi LNG — Cheniere Stage 3
Overview
TYPE3’s map data identifies Corpus Christi LNG, including Stage 3, as an Operating LNG-export facility in San Patricio County with Cheniere Energy as operator and a 200 MW estimated power field. EIA reports Stage 3 as seven midscale trains with 1.3 Bcf/d nominal and 1.5 Bcf/d peak capacity. It says Stage 3 began producing LNG in December 2024 and loaded its first cargo in February 2025.
Cheniere reported substantial completion of Train 3 in October 2025 and Train 5 in March 2026, with other trains scheduled through 2026. These milestones support an operating terminal with an expansion progressing in stages. LNG production, liquefaction capacity, gas throughput, and electrical demand remain different fields.
Do not convert Bcf/d or train nameplate into MW. TYPE3’s 200 MW remains a rough estimate unless an authoritative electrical-load source is added. Keep the parent terminal, existing trains, Stage 3 trains, commissioning, gas feed, and power demand distinct. Request Cheniere or utility data for electrical load, peak demand, onsite generation, and Stage 3 allocation.
The EIA and Cheniere sources answer production and commissioning questions, not the terminal’s electrical-meter question. Stage 3 therefore belongs in the same facility narrative as an expansion layer, but each train’s completion date and the terminal’s aggregate operating profile should remain separately dated. This prevents LNG output from being mistaken for controllable electric load.
Questions
What is Corpus Christi LNG Stage 3?
It is Cheniere’s expansion of the operating Corpus Christi LNG terminal. Stage 3 consists of seven midscale liquefaction trains brought online in phases.
How much power does it use?
TYPE3’s 200 MW is unconfirmed. Public sources report LNG capacity in Bcf/d and do not establish the terminal’s electrical demand.
Is Corpus Christi LNG operating?
Yes. The existing terminal operates, while Stage 3 has reached substantial completion on trains in phases. Current site load requires separate verification.
