Amazon Pecos County Data Center Campus, GW Ranch
Overview
TYPE3’s map data labels this AWS hyperscale campus as Construction at 960 MW, with 2025 as the announcement year and 2027 as the operational year. Amazon’s 10 August 2026 statement is narrower: it confirms a planned Pecos County data-center campus powered by new on-site generation and designed to transition to grid-connected service as interconnection timelines allow. Amazon also said it was exploring on-site solar and battery storage.
Reporting based on TCEQ materials describes Pacifico Energy’s GW Ranch gas project at up to 7.65 GW, plus possible battery and solar additions. That is a generation permit envelope, not Amazon’s published IT load. Amazon confirmed that it acquired the site and planned to buy power from the plant. The reporting does not convert the gas project into data-center megawatts.
Amazon’s GW Ranch and Microsoft’s Pecos compute campus in SEO-007 are separate projects. TYPE3’s 960 MW estimate, GW Ranch’s 7.65 GW generation, 1.8 GW of possible batteries, and 750 MW of possible solar are separate layers. The power source and compute use therefore require separate reporting. The generation plan does not define the campus load. Until Amazon or a regulator discloses IT load, interconnection MW, or energized halls, the compute capacity remains unknown.
Questions
Is Amazon building a data center in Pecos County?
Amazon has confirmed a planned Pecos County data-center campus. That confirmation does not establish a live, customer-facing facility.
Does GW Ranch’s 7.65 GW equal the data center’s power use?
No. The 7.65 GW figure describes permitted gas generation. Amazon has not published the campus IT load.
Where does TYPE3’s 960 MW come from?
The inventory notes label 960 MW as a rough estimate, not a verified operating load.

This state sits outside ERCOT and outside the survey. Sponsoring one funds the work of charting it — pulling its interconnection queue, large loads, and price data onto the map.
