GlobalWafers Sherman Silicon Wafer Facility — Sherman, Texas
Overview
TYPE3’s map data identifies GlobalWafers Sherman Silicon Wafer Facility as a semiconductor fab in Grayson County, with city precision, coordinates 33.63, -96.595, Construction status, a 2022 announced field, and a 100 MW seed estimate. Its note cites a $5 billion investment, up to 1.2 million wafers per month, and about 1,500 jobs, and it qualifies the power figure as unconfirmed. Wafer-output and investment claims are not site load, and the category label “semiconductor fab” should not collapse this substrate plant into TI’s nearby device fabs.
GlobalWafers’ May 16, 2025 opening release placed the ceremony on May 15 U.S. time, cited a US$3.5 billion project, and said the 142-acre campus can accommodate up to six phases. NIST’s CHIPS page records direct funding of up to $406 million for Sherman and St. Peters, with Sherman statistics of $380 million in direct funding, about 1,200 construction jobs, and 750 manufacturing jobs, against expected capital expenditure of $4 billion. TDLR TABS2023025072 lists 3200 Northgate Drive, Sherman, as a 1,330,000-square-foot wafer manufacturing facility. GlobalWafers’ 2025 annual report still separately lists 200 F.M. 1417 West as the existing Texas plant and 3200 Northgate Drive as the new plant.
Keep the Northgate 300mm factory separate from the FM 1417 site and from TI Sherman. Phase-one opening does not prove later phases are operating. TYPE3’s map data Construction flag now conflicts with the 2025 opening; 100 MW remains unconfirmed.
Questions
Is GlobalWafers Sherman a chip fab like TI next door?
No. It manufactures 300mm silicon wafers used as inputs for chipmaking. It is not TI’s SM1/SM2 device campus.
Does TYPE3’s map data Construction status still match public evidence?
Not for Phase 1. GlobalWafers opened the Northgate plant in May 2025. Later campus phases remain expansion scope.
Is 100 MW verified demand?
No. TYPE3’s map data labels it an unconfirmed estimate. CHIPS dollars, acreage, and wafer counts are not electrical load.

This state sits outside ERCOT and outside the survey. Sponsoring one funds the work of charting it — pulling its interconnection queue, large loads, and price data onto the map.
