Texas Instruments Sherman Fab — SM1/SM2 Mega-Site, Texas
Overview
TYPE3’s map data identifies Texas Instruments Sherman Fab (SM1/SM2 mega-site) as a semiconductor fab in Grayson County, with city precision, coordinates 33.6357, -96.6089, Operating status, a 2021 announced field, a 2025 operational field, and a 150 MW seed estimate. Its note describes a potential $40 billion mega-site with plans for up to four connected 300mm wafer fabs and places Sherman inside TI’s broader $60 billion, seven-fab investment across Texas and Utah. Those capital and production statements do not establish site demand.
TI’s December 17, 2025 newsroom release said production started at SM1 just three and a half years after groundbreaking and that the fab will ramp according to customer demand, ultimately producing tens of millions of chips daily. The Sherman manufacturing page repeats the four-fab plan, cites as many as 3,000 direct TI jobs, 1.3 million square feet of clean-room space, and a 100 percent renewable-electricity claim. Renewable-electricity procurement is not a measured load figure. Future SM2 through SM4 buildings remain demand-gated on TI’s own pages; they should not be treated as currently operating production floors.
Keep Sherman separate from GlobalWafers’ nearby silicon-wafer plant and from TI’s other Texas fabs. Do not convert daily chip counts, clean-room square footage, or the $40 billion ceiling into megawatts. TYPE3’s 150 MW estimate remains unconfirmed, and no reviewed source publishes current electrical demand or available flexibility.
Questions
Is the Sherman mega-site operating?
SM1 is. TI announced production on December 17, 2025, and its current Sherman page says SM1 is in production now. SM2–SM4 remain future, demand-gated fabs.
Does SM1 production mean the whole $40 billion campus is complete?
No. TI describes a potential four-fab investment constructed and equipped in alignment with market demand.
Is 150 MW verified electrical demand?
No. TYPE3’s map data labels it an unconfirmed estimate. Renewable-electricity claims and chip-output targets are not site load.
