Microsoft Pecos Data Center Campus
Overview
Microsoft’s Pecos campus is a planned West Texas data-center development outside Pecos in Reeves County. TYPE3’s map data identifies 1241 County Road 112, lists Microsoft as operator, and marks the campus announced with zero MW. Microsoft’s June 2026 announcement provides stronger evidence: the company plans a new campus expected to expand global data-center capacity by approximately 2 GW over five to seven years, with dedicated onsite energy infrastructure funded by Microsoft and hundreds of permanent operational jobs when operational.
Chevron’s announcement describes Project Kilby, a separate but related co-located power development in West Texas. Chevron says Energy Forge One will develop approximately 2.67 GW of generation through a phased modular approach for a Microsoft-operated data center, with a final investment decision expected by the end of 2026 and first power anticipated in 2028, subject to conditions. The 2.67 GW number is generation capacity, not Microsoft’s critical IT load, and it does not add to the 2 GW campus expansion figure.
Microsoft’s planned campus, Chevron’s proposed generation, construction, energization, and operations remain separate evidence layers. Microsoft’s official local letter confirms plans to build outside Pecos and Reeves County but does not provide a building-level schedule or IT-load breakdown. The campus remains planned, the approximately 2 GW expansion is attributed to Microsoft, and operating MW is unknown. The proposed behind-the-meter design alone does not establish dispatch capability.
Questions
